JGTO Abroad: Gutsy Nakajima Makes Cut in Singapore

Keita Nakajima's birdie on the final hole proved crucial as his second-round two-under-par 70 on Friday was enough for him to advance to the weekend rounds of the Porsche Singapore Classic.

The JGTO number one was facing early elimination after mixing a birdie with two bogeys through 11 holes at Laguna National Golf Resort Club, but he staged a remarkable comeback.

Nakajima made three gains on holes three, five, and nine to climb the leaderboard.

To his relief, he finished the day just above the cutline, set at one-under 143.

The other Japanese representatives who made the cut were Rikuya Hoshino and Masahiro Kawamura.

Hoshino kept himself in contention after posting a 71, placing him in a tie for 19th at 138, four shots off the pace set by Freddy Schott of Germany (69), and English duo Andy Sullivan (63) and Richard Mansell (69).

Kawamura also barely survived the cut after a roller-coaster day, which saw him drop a triple bogey on the par-four 16th.

Thankfully, his 72 was sufficient to place him in joint 62nd alongside Nakajima.
